Mike Lee Thomas is a filmmaker and photographer from Teesside, in the North of England.
His work is driven by a simple equation: Location + Culture = Place.

His films are slow, observational, and concerned with the dignity of their subjects. They have taken him to Cannes, around the world with the BBC, and to mark the retirement of Rafael Nadal.

In 2023 he founded Arena, a DIY exhibition space in Newcastle. The Dawdler - an exhibition, film, book and live performance built around a North East composer diagnosed with MS - is the clearest expression of how he works.

He is currently developing a long-form photographic study of Teesside, documenting the communities and landscapes shaped by its industrial past.
